| What a blast on our last day of the 12th Annual Youth Firefighter Camp on June 19th.
The day started with a vehicle rescue demonstration. All the campers got to watch the firefighters work to extricate a "victim," and Chief Shuler discussed everything that was happening as the firefighters were working. The kids loved watching the firefighters take the cars roof off.
The Cadet group participated by assisting with patient extrication and care alongside Freedom Valley EMS, who guided the Cadets in assessing the "patient's" condition and the extent of injuries. Due to the "extensive injuries of the patient", EMS requested a helicopter. PennStar was quick to "respond" and flew into the landing zone set up by some of the other Cadets to "fly the patient out".
The Cadets assisted with transporting the patient from EMS care at the "scene" to the helicopter crews. After completing the transfer of care, all the campers came over to tour the helicopter and ask the crew questions. After taking a picture with the helicopter crew, the kids headed back up for the big Fire Camp picture! As soon as they finished, all campers handed in their gear before enjoying a cool wet down by getting a shower provided by Ladder 51!
Finally, the campers ended the day with a pizza party, a visit from Sparky, and received certificates of completion! We hope everyone had a great time at camp! A special thank you to our very own firefighters and members for putting the camp together, and to the awesome visitors who participated!!! See you next year!!! |
