| The Limerick Fire Department was dispatched at 11:20 am on February 20 to assist with a building fire response on High Street in Pottstown. Rescue 51, Special Service 51, Deputy Chief 51, and Traffic 51-2 responded to the scene. An underground transformer exploded, causing a basement fire and rupturing a gas line. Deputy 51 assisted with running Pottstown command on a porch directly across from the building of origin. Special Service 51 filled the air cylinders as needed. The crew from Rescue 51 assisted as RIT and fire suppression and maintained a watchful eye on the PECO workers as they dug to find the ruptured gas line. Later, they assisted with checking for any gas readings at the Pottstown Borough Hall. Traffic 51-2 helped fire police shut down roads around the area of the incident. President Tom Walters assisted at the East Division Command when operations shifted to alternative command tactics due to the length and scope of the incident.
The Pottstown incident was the first of seven calls the department had that day... a very busy day! |
