| Better late than never... but it's not like this cold is going anywhere. Limerick Fire Department crews were busy both of the snowy weekends in January. The first weekend, January 17-18, saw several accidents for the crew. Fire Police spent a good part of the day outside keeping roads shut due to accidents.
The second weekend, from Monday, January 24-26, saw the Limerick Station staffed with a crew ready for anything. While staffing, crews spent time together playing games, training, finding projects around the station, and regularly plowing the snow from around the station. Both stations had prepared the Utilities (Pickups) with plows to go ahead of EMS should they have any medical emergencies. Limerick Emergency Management opened the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) for virtually the entirety of Sunday, January 25. The LFD Contributing Members pitched in to provide the staffed crews with meals for the entire weekend.
The first calls during the storm came in that Sunday evening after a plow truck accidentally hit some power lines on Linfield Rd. It also triggered a CO detector call in a nearby neighborhood. Crews responded to a lift assist and a water flow at Arcadia in the early hours of Monday morning. Throughout the day and into the evening, the LFD crews responded to a CO detector, a fire alarm, two building fire dispatches (a shed fire in East Coventry and a barn fire in Upper Providence), and one cardiac arrest.
