| For Monday Night Training on October 27, the Limerick crew headed to Staybridge Suites on Anchor Parkway off of Township Line Road to practice using standpipes. While en route to the hotel, Limerick was dispatched to assist New Hanover with a vehicle rescue on Swamp Pike. Fortunately, only a couple of minutes after dispatch, the occupant had self-extricated, and Limerick was recalled.
After arriving at the hotel, crews were split into three groups and rotated through three training stations. The first station was a visit to the mechanical (or riser) room, where Lieutenant Jim Lucas explained in detail the hotel's fire suppression system. The second station, located at the front ("A side") of Staybridge Suites, had the Engine parked directly across the FDC (Fire Dept Connection) next to the entrance. Engineer Ben Andes discussed how to connect the engine to the FDC using a 3-inch hose. Finally, for the third station, crews practiced deploying the high-rise pack from the second to the fourth floor using deployment techniques, also hooking up to the standpipe in the stairwell.
As crews wrapped up training, the Rescue was dispatched as RIT to assist at a working fire on Beech Street in Pottstown. |
