| At 3:01 pm on November 7, the Limerick Fire Department was dispatched to assist with a large field fire between N Charlotte St and Miles Road in New Hanover Township. Field 51-2, ATV 51, Engine 51, and Battalion 51 responded. Crews immediately went to work upon arrival, extinguishing the rapidly spreading fire and creating a firebreak with rakes around the perimeter of the field to prevent it from spreading further. The Engine 51 crew was assigned to contain the fire on the east side of the field, protecting the property and home in that area. Once the fire was extinguished, all the dispatched ATVs and Field units made rounds in the field, soaking the ground thoroughly to prevent rekindling. Tanker 59 and a couple of engines served as the primary water supply for all field and ATV units. DCNR was dispatched to investigate the cause of the field fire. The New Hanover Fire Marshal announced later in the evening that the cause of the fire was believed to be an improperly discarded cigarette. Overall, approximately ten acres burned. There were no reported injuries, and no nearby homes were affected. All units were cleared after about two hours of operation.
Units dispatched included Montgomery County stations New Hanover, Limerick, Gilbertsville, Ringing Hill, Upper Pottsgrove, Green Lane, Upper Salford, Skippack, Upper Frederick, Lower Frederick, Chester County North Coventry, and Berks County Boyertown. |
