On Monday night, April 28, the Limerick Fire Department conducted a training focused on vehicle rescue. Firefighters rotated through three stations of vehicle accident scenarios. Two of the stations focused on stabilization and rescue techniques. Senior firefighters focused on safely stabilizing multiple vehicles using various tools and techniques, while new and younger members focused on basic stabilization and operation of our rescue tools. Limerick’s rescue truck carries various manual, hydraulic, and battery-powered tools, and the firefighters need to practice using each tool.
The third station focused on stabilization and airbag use. This scenario featured a simulated accident where a car was stuck underneath a school bus. Heavy vehicle rescue is often categorized as a low-frequency, high-risk emergency. These situations do not occur too often, but our members need to be prepared should the department be dispatched for that type of call.
We want to send a special thank you to Auto Rescue for their assistance in helping set up these stations and for the use of their facility! Partnerships like this ensure that the Limerick Fire Department is well-trained and ready for any emergency. |
