Youth Firefighter Camp: Day Four

June 23, 2022

Day four of Camp was another packed day for the Cadets, despite the rain. Today the Cadets learned about calling 9-1-1 and emergency dispatching. This station allowed the cadets to simulate calling in an emergency to 9-1-1, act as a dispatcher getting information and then transmitting a dispatch call. The cadets also learned about traffic control around emergency scenes with Fire Police members instructing. Trappe Ambulance was on hand to instruct the Cadets on 1st Aid and CPR. The Cadets learned about fire safety in the Safety Trailer discussing kitchen and bedroom fire situations. They also practiced exiting the room safely from a fire. The Cadets continued the skills on the use of portable fire extinguisher.

Special guests today at the Camp included Dave Davis with The National Fire Sprinkler Association Mid-Atlantic Team, from New Jersey and Norristown Fire Chief Tom O'Donnell with K-9 Kindle. Dave Davis of the NFSA demonstrated how sprinklers work in the event of a fire either in a home or business. Chief O'Donnell and Kindle did a demonstration on identification of potential accelerant use at a fire. The Cadets also had a nice question and answer session with Chief O'Donnell about
K-9 Kindle.

Limerick Fire Department would like to thank Dave Davis (NFSA), Chief Tom O'Donnell and Kindle (Norristown Fire Department) and Trappe Ambulance for their assistance at this year's Youth Firefighter Camp.
Also a huge thank you to Limerick Chapel for allowing the Department to use their gym.
